February 3, 1863: Boys Made a Rally on Old Barn
Snow commenced falling about daylight, and the weather became much colder than it as been for several days. some of the boys made a rally on an old barn close to Camp, and it not being able to stand the pressure fell down. the old secesh who owns it, and who lives close by, O’Brannan, turned out in the storm and hauled the lumber to his house in order to prevent us from burning it, as we had already done with his fences and almost everything else burnable.
Storm ceased about 11 A.M. and we went to work at our new quarters. returned at night and made our supper on bean soup that Peter had made.
