January 16, 1863: I Do Not Feel Like Marching
Diary Entry:
Last night we had a heavy rain, and to day a high wind, orders were issued for us to be ready to march tomorrow morning at sunrise. I do not feel like marching for my feet are very sore from some cause unknown to me, they are swelled and very painful.

Following the Army of the Potomac’s defeat in the Battle of Fredericksburg, General Burnside began making plans to launch a second offensive against General Lee near Fredericksburg to save face. Bad weather and political disagreements delayed the attack until January 20, however.
