January 14, 1863: Detailed for Picket

Bookmark and Share

Diary Entry:
I was detailed for Picket yesterday. Our Picket line was the roughest I ever saw. A Lt. Col. whose name I could not learn, was Officer of the Day. he succeeded in making himself supremely ridiculous, and in gaining the ill will of all the men, and the curses of many of them.

For want of a proper name we dubbed him Dromedary and Thunderbolt. We returned to Camp at 2 1/2 O’clock P.M.

See scanned diary pages 45 and 46.
