March 24, 1862: Leave Camp Wilkes
Diary Entry:
Leave Camp Wilkes at 8 o’clock A.M. General Lockwood addressed us before we left. He said that when we passed through Perryville in Sept. we obtained the name of the rummiest Regt. the Perryvillians had ever seen, but we had since redeemed our character and had received more encomiums than any other Regt. that he knew. Said we had done our duty. That night we encamped 22 miles from Camp Wilkes.
